Projects: Current, Finished, Fantasy and Wearing

Sherri

Tamara
  • Knitting on a new hat design out of Malabrigo Rios yarn. The hat will be in 3 sizes and each one is in a different color of Rios - Lettuce, Frank Ochre and Ravelry Red. She dug out her Halloween themed stitch markers and she's having a great time pairing them with the yarn. Fun projects!
  • Finished that fingering weight top down sweater design out of Valley Yarns Charlemont (wool/silk blend). She's naming this one Turquoise Trail Pullover and she's super excited to be done with knitting it and getting ready to start the test knit for it.
  • Also knitting on that top down worsted weight cloak design out of Knit Picks Simply Wool in the color Wodsworth.
  • And she's been tossing the stash and dreaming about upcoming 2022 patterns and releases! Right now her craft room is a BIG MESS with yarn out all over.

Mulligans

Sherri:
  • While she was adding the border to April Cardigan she changed to interchangeable needs.  She spent three days working with a size 2 tip on one side and a size 3 tip on the other. She knew something didn't feel quite right but kept going anyway. When she finally figured out what her fingers had been telling her, she decided she is not going to rip out but keep it as a design element for now.

Topic of the Show: Acrylic and Acrylic Blend Yarns.

Sherri and Tamara talk about acrylic and acrylic blend yarns. They talk about pros and cons of acrylic yarns, the types of projects where acrylic yarns work best and some knitter's favorites.

That's Entertainment (what we're watching, reading, eating and playing while we knit)

Sherri
  • Watching Only Murders in the Building on Hulu. Steve Martin, Martin Short, Selena Gomez. A suicide (or is it murder) happens in their building and they start a true crime podcast as they try to solve the murder (or is it suicide).
  • Listened to the NPR Pop Culture Happy Hour Podcast.  Episode September 8, 2021 In 'Only Murders In The Building', Nosy Neighbors Start A Podcast. The NPR crew gives the show positive reviews but throw shade at their skills at making a podcast stating no podcast (no good podcast) can be released two hours after recording. She felt seen.

Tamara
  • Watched the Loki series on Disney Plus. She liked it but doesn't want to share too much to avoid spoilers.
  • Watched The Big Lebowski (1998) with Jeff Bridges as part of the "cultural heritage for teens project". Tamara actually picked this one on a whim. The younger teen thought it was pretty good.
  • Read The Chilbury Ladies' Choir by Jennifer Ryan. This was on the book club list for 2020. She finally got around to reading it now. Set in the village of Chilbury in Kent in 1940 during the beginning of WW2. It was good.
  • Loaded Tator Tots! She's been craving them for a while. They are simple - bake a large tray of tots as it says on the bag. While they are baking, chop and gather toppings - tomatoes, green peppers, jalepenos, green onions, sour cream and bacon bits. After the tots are baked, cover with shredded cheese and bacon bits and put back in the oven for 5ish minutes to melt the cheese. Each person takes a serving and tops with a huge mound of veggies. Yum!
  • The move is done! We're finally starting to try to add family board games back in around the teen work/school/friend schedule.
