Projects: Current, Finished, Fantasy and Wearing

Sherri
  • Current. Knitting on a that new Sherri Pullover out of a wonderful turquoise silk tweed yarn. Sherri's Sherri Pullover
  • Fantasy. Dreaming about making a natural fiber (cotton or wool) blanket for her bed. Her current bedding has too much polyester and is lacking in breathability.

Tamara
  • Current. Knitting on the worsted weight Sherri Pullover.
  • Finished. Everywhere Mitts by Minimi Knit Design. This was another GAL project she picked to support other designers. These knit up so quickly!!! The pattern is written for Aran weight yarn making it a perfect fit for some stash Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride. Tamara's finished Everywhere Mitts
  • Fantasy. Dreaming about a top-down fingering weight swing cardigan. She has a commercial swing cardigan like this that she wears multiple times a week. She loves this cardigan! But she's not super proud that this was a fast fashion impulse buy. So she's already thinking ahead to a solution that will make her happier when this one wears out. She decided on Regia fingering weight sock yarn in a solid black for this and she's really looking forward to figuring it out.

Topic of the Show: Slow Fashion

Sherri and Tamara spend some time talking about the problems with Fast Fashion and why Slow Fashion is important.

That's Entertainment

Sherri
  • Listening to the Planet Money podcast. Specifically the episode We dare researches to leave the ivory tower. This is the episode where she learned that Luddites has a dictionary definition of "a member of any of the bands of English workers who destroyed machinery, especially in cotton and woolen mills...." The Marvels movie in the theater! She loved the Kamala Khan character played by Iman Vellani the best.
  • Watched. The Blue Beetle movie.
  • Food. Sweet Potato Corn Chowder.

Tamara
  • Reading. Fashionopolis: The Price of Fast Fashion and the Future of Clothes by Dana Thomas. She was hoping for a quick list of things to change or do. This is not that. But it is full of lots of information about where the fashion industry has been and what the future might look like.
  • Watched. The 5th and last season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon Prime. They took a long break from the series but just got back into it and finished it. She noticed the clothing factory in Manhattan's Garment District owned by Midge's in-laws appears in many (maybe all) of the episodes this season.
  • Dreaming about travel! All this talk and reading about the garment industry has her wanting to visit historic garment districts around the country and the Midwest. She's excited to start looking for places to visit and she would love suggestions.
