Current Projects

Sherri:
  • Working on a her Peony (Ravelry link), this is her bright pink Dutch still-life inspired top-down sweater out of Neighborhood Fiber Co gradient kit.
  • Finished Rocky Road (Ravelry link) cardigan by Heidi Kirrmaier out of Beaverslide Dry Goods Merino/Mohair 90/10. Sherri's Rocky Road (Ravelry link)

Tamara:
  • Working on a her new Citrus Cowl/Shawl design out of a beautiful orange color named Lusty Wench on Treasure Goddess fingering sock base. This design has been finished, tweaked, finished again, tweaked again and it is finally, finally almost done. The yarn is awesome and has held up the design process super well! Plus Tamara loves the color.

Swatch: Review of Beaverslide Dry Goods yarn

Sherri and Tamara take a few minutes to record a short Swatch Episode. As we round into a new year and are still under lockdown, we'll be adding some of these shorter Swatches in between our longer normal episodes.

In this Swatch, Sherri and Tamara review the Beaverslide Dry Goods (link to website) Merino/Mohair 90/10 yarn (link to specific yarn discussed but you should definitely look at the others too!). This yarn is grown on a family ranch on the Rocky Mountain Front and processed at a small family owned woolen mill about 260 miles from the ranch for a very small and intentional carbon footprint. They took a little time to discuss how it knits up on different types of needles, ply/twist, how it handles cables, lace and texture, their impressions of the yarn, how to wash it and it's price point. They both gushed more than a little about this yarn and the company. Sherri's finished Rock Road cardigan (Ravelry link) is knit out of this year in a bright, clear red named Buffaloberry....and Tamara's dreaming about SQ of the 100% merino in either the worsted or DK weight.

Join us for the Inspired by Art MAL! The Inspired by Art MAL runs from March 30 (Van Gogh's birthday) through end of July (Frida Kahlo's birthday month). To participate, pick a piece of art that inspires you, pick a fiber project to go along with your art and join us in the thread. Each finished art inspired project posted in the Ravelry thread will be entered as one chance to win the final prize of a beautiful skein of Apothefaery Delightful DK (115 g, 275 yds, 100% fine superwash Merino wool) in the color Sheep Social. (This colorway is a limited edition made only for Yarn Social inspired by this Henry Spencer Moore bronze piece at The Nelson-Adkins Museum of Art.) Chatting in the thread will also enter you to win a pattern pdf of one of Tamara's art inspired patterns about halfway through the MAL and again near the end of the MAL. If you don't use Ravelry, you can tag us on Instagram using the tag #gpartinspiredMAL to be entered to win the prizes.

That's Entertainment (what we're watching, reading, eating and playing while we knit)

Tamara:
  • Listening to another Anna Pigeon National Parks mystery titled Flashback. This one is set at Dry Tortugas National Park (70 miles west of Key West in open water). She loves learning about National Parks and this one is super interesting. The book is good too.
  • Watched Better Off Dead (John Cusack 1985 movie) as part of the "cultural heritage for teens" family project. This one held up really well. Bonus points for making Tamara look like a pretty cool mom of teens in comparison to the movie mom.
