Tamara
  • Started the Beach Glass Sweater test knit and Aria Hat test knit
  • Released the Ponytail Hot Chocolate Hat. She's excited to share this pattern as an exclusive gift to newsletter subscribers! You can sign up for her newsletter here.
  • She's also working one non-knitting thing. This is the first time she's mentioned it on air that she's in the process of working towards 100 days in a row of practicing Qigong. She's on day 57 at the time of recording. She cycles through several different practice videos depending on how much time/energy she has each day. Her current favorites are this 5 minute one (11 minutes if you do the optional review), this 20 minute one and this 18 minute one

Topic of the Show: Chainette Yarns

Sherri and Tamara talk about Chainette Yarns. Chainette or Chained yarns are made up of narrow plies that are machine knit into a strand that resembles mesh or icord. Ravelry lists 417 different chained yarns in many different weights/gauges at the time of recording. Sherri really loves them! Tamara found these words used by many to describe chainette yarns - hollow core, loft, lightweight, airy, strength, lift and luxurious.

Both Sherri and Tamara found this blog post by Donna Estin about chainette yarns in their research and recommend it to learn more.

That's Entertainment (what we're watching, reading, eating and playing while we knit)

Sherri
  • Listened to the ID10T with Chris Hardwick Episode #1105 about directing Kurt Russell in “The Christmas Chronicles”.
  • Cooking with fresh turmeric from her Winter CSA. So far she is not a big fan of fresh turmeric.

Tamara
  • Watching Season 5 of The Expanse on Amazon Prime. (She said Season 3 in the recording but she was wrong and she's actually watching Season 5.) This is her current favorite science fiction show.
  • Just finished the family rewatch of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. She felt it really resonated with events in 2020 and the beginning of 2021 on this rewatch.
  • Reading book 8 of the Maisie Dobbs series A Lesson in Secrets.
  • Just started reading Becoming by Michelle Obama.
  • Played a 6 hour game of Through the Ages with the family over the winter break. It was good for every that she had socks to knit on during the game. She gave this particular playing of the game a Knitability Score of 10.
